THE STEP UP EVENT IN CHRISTCHURCH LED TO THE WONDERFUL FEEDBACK THAT FOLLOWS

Did you all hear about Step Up? This event was held in ChCh Sept 16th and 17th. I was involved with organizing and running the event

There were about 500 teens and 100 adults who volunteered their time and energy to make the event happen.

Step Up is a wonderful foundation aiming to inspire and uplift teens across the globe about the possibilities for their future via the stories and skills communicated by powerful speakers who have overcome adversitiy to create the lives of their dreams.

TEEN FEEDBACK ON STEPUP

From stepUP I have learnt that your up bring doesn’t matter. I have learnt from the speakers that anything is possible you just have to believe in yourself. The knowledge that the speakers have in yourself. The knowledge that the speakers have passed on you’re their experiences has taught me to live now and not make life hard for yourself. I am taking on “if there is a will there is a way” I’m going to keep on trying to achieve and I will get there!! Thanks again StepUP . You have taught me how to cope with bad things that have happened in my life and to set goals to achieve!!

What I’ve got out of StepUP – I’ve learnt that you have to be yourself at all times, laugh at yourself, love yourself (no matter what others say) and mistakes are normal on the way to success!! Also I now believe I can be someone and do something even though I’ve been though I’ve be thro bad times. Ur past doesn’t matter.

I’m going to start believing in myself and say I will” instead of “I’ll try”. I’m also going to start to love myself!!

I have learnt to be yourself and don’t let people beat or get you down. Always live life to the fullest and helped me understand more about life. And enjoy life to the fullest and helped me understand more about. And enjoy life to the fullest even if life has not gone to good for you. No matter what any actions are they are going to care with consequences. I’m going to take more action to my life and believe in my self and not let people get me down no matter what. Thank you StepUP

That I can just be myself and I don’t have to do what other people do I just have to believe in myself. I’m going to be a book writer

I have gained a lot of knowledge about how I can get on with life and not have to worry about making mistakes because “mistakes are normal on the way to Greatness!” I loved listening to the speeches. Especially Kurek Ashley because he spoke from his point of view and it was very touching and inspiring. It now makes me want to go out and set my goals to achieve them. In the future I would love to become a silver Fern that is one of my Greatest Goals to achieve and I hope I do achieve it. I now feel that I can because StepUp has give me courage and determination to do so! Thanks StepUP!

StepUp really helped me understand that if you put your mind to something and focus hard enough on it you can achieve anything you want I’m now commited to pursue my dream of playing in the National Hockey League (NHL) in North America. No NZer has ever played professional ice hockey and I want to be the first to do that. I’m going to Canada next Monday for 10 months to a hockey college in Quebec which hardly anyone thought I would be able to do this year as I had a lot of money to find but I managed to prove them wrong and believe I can do the same to anyone who doesn’t believe I can play professional hockey. Thank you StepUP

That you’ve got something to get something back to show who you are deep down inside even though you might not feel comfortable doing so. To stepUP An opportunity to be all the best you can be.

That no matter what past you had it doesn’t matter and it shouldn’t alter your future. And people shouldn’t judge you by your past or your disability. And if you have your goals posted.

Hey, I have learnt so much from StepUP and I have set myself some new goals in short term and long term. My long term one being my dream job an archertect. This has been one of my passions for ages and stepUP has made me think about some strategies that will help me towards this goal, and my short term goal to save @200 within six months. So now I can focus, use my beliefs and strategies to get to my goal. So thank you so, so much that you have given me this opportunity. I will come back next year and I will tell you if I am on the right track to achieving my goals. STEPUP YOU ROCK MY SOCKS

I really like the “Bounce factor” that Karen told us about so that would be my favourite thing that I gained.

I recently trial for a Canterbury Country Senior Rep team and didn’t make it because I felt I was too young and I didn’t stand a chance so that’s what I kept telling myself. Am now going to tell myself I can do it and I’m going to put Affirmations and Bounce Factor into action and I’m going to trial again next year.

Q1 Motivation and confidence in what I do

Q2 Going to get job and do better in my school work. What inspired me was how U gotta give a little to get a little so in giving an effort to get more money and better grades.

I’ve got out of StepUP a lot. I’ve learnt that it takes work to get what I want. It took a lot of jumping up and down to win my pink StepUP cap. I had to percivere to get it. I’ve had lots of goals but StepUP has given me the momentum I’ve badly needed. So thank you so much Ryll. Thank you for making StepUp. Thank you for giving me the drive I need to succeed. I now truly know everything and anything is possible. Holly

What I’ve gotten out of StepUp.. That I can do ANYTHING I want with my life.

Being an Islander people have stereotyped me but from this programme I know for a fact that success does NOT care about your past.. Anything is possible!!

What are you now taking on?.. Success does not care about my past . Where I come from and who I identify myself with.

Become a motivational person for Pacific Islanders. Be someone that Islanders can all look up to and know that if I can do it then they can too. Tell and show them that message.

I am a bright young student I play quite a lot of sport, my major sport I started 14 months ago. This sport takes most people 4 years to reach the position I am in. My coach who is the number 2 coach in New Zealand has indicated I am “an x-factor”. I’ve never really believed in myself and he also said I have the potential skill and natural talent to make it, my father on the other hand thinks I’ve never really had the passion to get to the top, I sort of agree. So what I have learnt is that believe in yourself and you can achieve anything. I’m am taking out of this experience is I am going to believe in myself and move forward. THANKYOU VERY MUCH for helping me realise all I need to do is my part.

I have learnt to keep saying I am I am if I can’t do something and that.

I got lots of strategies out of it helping me to get closer to my goals. Now I am going to live life to the fullist and have gratitude for living and use strategies to get further and concentrate on the present.

I have learnt that if you beleave and try hard on something ,you want, you will get what you want. After the first day of StepUP, I went home and thought up some which I thought was real cook. It is : life is a once and a life time thing.

Thank you STEPUP. You have turned my life around.

I am in Control. I have got a lot of stepUP, I have learnt that I am the only one that can control my life, so it is up to me to make my life the best I can, to live my dreams. I have been to plenty of counscellors for years at a time, but you (stepUP) taught me the most valuable things I could ever learn in just 2 days! I have made plenty of new friends, and gained more confidence. I am now in control of my own life and I will make the most of everything I have. I will not give up until I have achieved what I want to achieve. Thank you all so much for all of the help and I am now ready to be successful!! Xox Kelsey

I have gained from StepUP the win to perservere in everything I do and to stepUp and outside of my comfort zone to achieve my goals. I will apply this to my everyday school work, sports and other interests. Now I can take on anything because I know I have to ability to step outside of my comfort zone.

I got out of StepUP was to have better thoughts on life. To think about what you want to do, believe that you can do that, Put some action in to it and you will get results. What am I going to take on … I will visualize what I want to be able to do so in my head and then do it. I will take on…. Identity Beliefs Behaviour Actions Results

From StepUP I feel I have learnt a lot. I know I can now do anything I want if I just believe in myself. Obviously if I use so many of the tips and straergies from the different speakers like to focus, believe, think, create, responsibility, success living and learning how to control myself and use my abilities and skills to the best!

From StepUP I can now be a better leader in life. Within my friends, school and sports. Just last night I showed my netball team to believe and be positive now we are all determined to win on our final game (we haven’t won all season!)

Another time that StepUP is going to help me with my goal of going overseas on an AFS student exchange in 2009. I now believe I can do it and use the new skills to apply and get selected to go overseas on this exchange which is my dream. I will if I get selected then have to fund raise. And I think Richard speaking has helped me.

I now appreciate my life so much more, and even though my life has not been the best, there is always some are worse off. Thanks for giving me this opportunity.

If you did 3 6 hour days instead of 2 9 hour days I think more people would come. Also if you had more food in the breaks it would help us focus more. Other than that it was really good.

I have formed friendships with teens from other schools. I’ve also gotten to know students from my own school a bit better which was a bonus!! I’ve learnt new ways to keep motivated, I also got 2 days off classes, which is awesome. I’ve witnessed several adults imitating 20yr old hip-hop dancers which was highly amusing. I even got to see and listen to a cheesy host, I thought they only existed on TV!! Very fun!!

Next time I would like to see the people giving microphones going around the groups evenly and fairly please: If you try and then fail try again.

I’ve learnt a whole range of skills about how to achieve my goal effectively. All the speakers have motivated me in different ways. Now I’m going to work hard on achieving my goals using the different things that StepUp has taught me.

I have found out many ideas about life and jobs. I am taking on the knowledge of what is possible in my life and there are no limits.

I have learnt how to take action, live above the line, leave my comfort, made friends, follow my beliefs, I feel better about myself, I can make it further in life, and live life to the fullest, in the outside world I will focus, believe, and strategies. I learnt if you can do it you can achieve it, and I also learnt to StepUP and, if its possible for you, then its possible for me, its just a matter of how, and mistakes are normal on the way to greatness. A few simple disciplines practiced everyday, and I’m ok and your ok.

I learnt to visualize being successful a then it’ll happen and I will use that tactic when I will need to and I learnt to love above the line and will try my best to do it. I also learnt that if I fail once I should try again and to let go of things to move forward sometimes and I’ll try my best to do that as well.

StepUP has been a great oppitunity. I passipate in the people are – great to work with – coachs, students, management and all the speakers have been orsome. I think it’s great what you are doing and I have learnt heaps like how to get on with people I don’t know and some great bussness things to “live the bounce factor! You get knocked down – But if you bounce back up you will sucesed it. Just takes time. Thanks YOU ROCK!!

How achieve better things with my life and to actually do the things I want to do. Now I am going to take on more challenges.

I’ve learned how to step out of my comfort zone and I’ve made lots of friends. I learnt that you can do anything if you put your mind to it.

Anything is possible you’ve just got to believe you can do it. You’ve got to give a little to get a little. Always believe in yourself no-matter what anyone else says.

I learnt da’t u have 2 believe in your self if u want to get somewhere in life and that IF u amegine it u can do it. To Be the next NZ idol and practice towards my goal and achieve it an get lots of people to vote 4 me and straight and stay focused.

Well I got so much I learnt that you have to first believe in yourself to achieve anything. I also liked the delaying gratitude and putting in the hard yards to achieve. I’m going to take on the focus side of things and really focus on my life.

I want to thank you for letting me be here to experience what happened through the special people’s lives. I especially liked Cynthia Morton’s story because I related to it and I got information that can help out, I just want to say next time get them teens on stage more and out of their seats because I felt like a couch potato. Lol Thank you bye I enjoyed it!!

Well, I thought the whole positivy thing was real good because I’m the kind of girl looks at the glass half empty! Hahahahaha. I think I’m just going to be a nicer more positive girl to be around. Thanks heaps xx

The skills to become confident, focused and successful in all aspects of life. StepUP has encouraged me to participate in a wider variety of activities and organizations. It has reaffirmed my ideals about living a positive, rewarding and success life and had been a general reminder to believe in myself & encourage myself and others. Thank you

I‘ve gained a lot over the last couple of days like, that the fact that I need to believe in my self in order for others to believe in me, to take every opportunity that comes my way and use positive affirmations to help achieve my goals. Also I need to write down my goals as I can focus on them. I have taken all this information on board and will use positive affirmations in my everyday life from now on and I have also started to write down my goals to make them more achieveable.

I think you did pretty good in believing in yourself and creating stepUp! Continue persisting and going stepUp and good luck in England and America

I got out of stepUp a lot of great and useful things and the stories that were told inspired me! I have gain confordience and learn some rules to keep my head up and believe I can do anything I put my mind to! I’m gonna take on a positive attitude that will make me have full belief in myself.

Stepping out of my comfort zone I got to believe in my beliefs (1) I can make it further 2) I am going to achieve my NCEA level 1.

Thank you so much for this awesome apportunity! StepUp is an amazing conference. I have learnt some really useful life skills over my time here at StepUp. I now have more confidence and I’m ready to “STEPUP” and make a difference and do something big! Thanks again “if it’s possible for you, then its possible for me it’s just a matter of how” I will always remember this quote and will apply it through my life.

I’ve gained great knowledge on how to make a successful future and I know now to put every bad mistake or opinion behind me and move on to achieve my goal. I know how to make up a career of what I love to do most and also, I can tell my family and friends what a great experience this was for me. AND – if it’s possible for you, then it’s possible for me … it’s just a matter of how!

I got a lesson that I will carry for the rest of my life. I have learnt a lot. I put my name down for that corse worth $5000 to help me fulfill my dream

I lear that if you try to someones then gonna help you too. Do it for your future.

The following I’ve achieved – good communication skills, Believing in yourself, visualize what you want and you achieve it, complimenting yourself

Believing and taking action = result

I’m going to take on the role to success do what I believe in and keep focused to believe and stratergise communicating with different people will help become confident in big groups! Thank you for this awesome experience.

The Main things that I have learnt from StepUP over these past couple days is that you have tpkeep your head up high and always look forward to the future. Never look back. Live in the moment and have fun with life. Believe in yourself and you can go far. If you are passionate about something, don’t let anyone hold you back. If it’s possible for you then it’s possible for me, it’s just a matter of how. THANK YOU

During the stepUp “course” I gained several skills that will help me later in life. Some of these are – it doesn’t matter where I came from just where I’m going. If I imagine myself rich I will start thinking rich and then make rich actions. If I put my mind to it and FOCUS!!! I can do anything.

If it’s possible for you, it’s possible for me it’s just a matter of how!! Even if someone disagrees or doesn’t think I will make it I should say to myself “wanna bet” and go for it anyway.

I got many things from StepUp. How to govern my life and how to think positively. The speakers you had were excellent but personally I think you should start later so people don’t have to get up so early. Also have better fod. Thankyou for letting me experience stepUp. It has taught me many things. Yours sincerely Emily

I learnt that I need to listen to my heart. Every one is different,

But that’s not an excuse. I am going to start setting goals. I made new friends that are completely different from myself. I will take away the fact that I CAN DO ANYTHING IF YOU CAN SEE YOU CAN DO IT. STEPUP ROX

To make sure that everyone in each group participates.

When giving out prizes to make sure different people are getting prizes. I’ve learned that everyone is equal and to move forward you have to let go. Right now I am more focussed on passing NCEA and I really want top get far in my life so I’m setting a goal of becoming a hairdresser.

StepUp has helped me realize that ANY dream I have I can make happen… No matter of age, ability or any other factors!!!! My life is mine to make the most out of and I can do anything with it if I believe in myself and have a positive attitude to myself. Now I’m doing night courses at polytech and aiming to start full time fashion design. One day you will see my name related to a TOP LABEL! THANK YOU!

I have gained confidence and courage in myself and to finish and join in group activities. With what I know now I can be more focused on what I want in life and have more confidence in future. Thank you for this wonderful programme! XXO

I got out of StepUp a whole lot to now think about. Not every successful person that spoke over these few days had the best background. You have to believe in yourself X

I have gained the knowledge and understanding of life. And I’m so glad I listened to Matt M …. XOX

I have learnt that if someone else can do it I can too. I just have to believe in myself and be dedicated and never give up. I will take on all the information that I have been told at stepUp so I can do the best I can at life and everything I do.

That having belief in yourself will enable you to take actions which will help you get on with your goals. My goals – *be friendly to EVERYONE ev*en if they didn’t make a good 1st impression, *become an Architect,*Live in the now, not stress about past problems.

With stepUp I managed to understand about how you has thought about Stepup and what you wanted to achieve out of it. Once I understood what you had gone through to think of this In really understood why you did this and once you told us, I really enjoyed it in the end. I will now take on NCEA with these new skills that I haven learnt.

I learnt that whatever you do believe and take action and keep going , never stop and think “should I be doing this, is this right” Just go and do it. Also I learnt that if more people that doubt you, brush them aside.

I have learnt how to overcome downs and how to achieve my goals. It is given me methods on how to be successful in life. The speakers have been helpful on the times that have had to work hard. My favourite speaker was Gary and he has achieved a lot in his life. All I have to do now is go out and make then change
