A Thousand Splendid Suns - By Khaled Hosseini I read "The Kite Runner" by Khaled Hosseini about 18 months ago, it filled me with sorrow with every page but also opened my mind and heart to a story set in a country that has suffered so. The story itself so poignant and full of sweetness and honesty. So when I recently picked up "A Thousand Splendid Suns" at the airport in Sydney I knew it would be a good read. It proved to be not just good. Apart from engaging me from page one (a relief after having tried to start 3 separate novels in the past 2 weeks and just not getting into them) this story also gripped my heart. I have to say if you are prone to depression maybe it is not a good idea. I woke up on after day three of bedtime reading to a distinctly depressed state. At the same time I could not put the book down. I am grateful to Khaled Hosseini for opening life in Afghanistan up to me. His ever compassionate and stunningly descriptive writing is something worth the read. | | |
